The theme for the first week of the Documented Life Challenge is “My Front Door.” Thinking about my front door wasn’t terribly inspiring, especially right now when I can’t even get the front door open! We now have about 14 inches of snow piled up on our front porch so the door won’t open, but at least we can get out the back door to the garage. But we aren’t going anywhere in a big hurry, at least until it warms up a few degrees and the wind slows down a bit.
So, instead of finding inspiration from my own front door, right now at this time in my life, I decided to reflect on other doors in my life, and one that brings back childhood memories is the “Green Door.” When I was a little girl, my mama and daddy used to sing a song about a “Green Door,” and even though I had no idea what was behind that “Green Door,” the tune and the chorus was stuck in my little brain for many years.
So when I saw the picture of this green door, and it was a double door, too, I knew this was the door that would be my inspiration for this first week. It also makes a great cover for the art journal / calendar / day timer / planner that I’m making for this challenge.
I also decided to follow the lead of some of my other blogging friends and choose a WORD that will be my guiding principle for the year 2014. I thought of several that might work, but then decided on the word “CHALLENGE.” Perhaps a better choice might have been “SLOW DOWN,” (but then that’s two words and I’m only allowed one!), or”RELAX,” but there are a few things that I’ve decided to learn how to do this year, and they will be a CHALLENGE.
But, like many other challenges I’ve faced in my life, once I make up my mind to do something, I have always found a way to reach my goal. And that is exactly what I intend to do this year! I’m looking forward to this year-long creative challenge, and I am hopeful that it will keep me from lapsing into my “too busy” mode where I forget to take care of myself and my creative spirit.
I hope you are heading into the new year with a renewed inspiration to follow your dreams, your goals, and the challenges that are before you. Here’s a little peek at the beginning of my Documented Life Creative Challenge: Week 1 “Doors.” Leave a link to your latest creative projects so I can stop by and see what you’ve been working on!
