Favorite Things: A New Shop!

Fullscreen capture 172014 62558 PMAfter 10 years of designing and creating children’s boutique clothing, accessories, shoes, and fun crafty home decor items, and having pretty good success selling online (when I could actually work on building my business!), we will now have the opportunity to offer our designs in a little shop in Our Town!

Denim Twirl OutfitIt was quite interesting how all of this came about – as I had never really even considered having a “brick and mortar” type business. But a few months ago, after connecting with a young, energetic entrepreneur in our community, I attended her workshop for women who are in the process of building their own business.

As we all introduced ourselves, one of the other women in the group mentioned that she designed clothing for women and children and was looking at the possibility of opening a shop in our local community. We looked at each other and said, “We need to talk!”

And so began this new adventure that I never expected to undertake. Amanda and her husband have purchased a three-story building with a store front and tons of work space right on Main Street here in Our Town. Her dream is to offer an opportunity to other women in our community to work together to create a boutique where customers can discover hand crafted items from artisans in our area.

DSCF2920So far there are women entrepreneurs who want to join the team who create a wide variety of items including handmade soaps and lotions, hand painted shoes, leather goods, a photographer, a health and wellness coach, jewelry and stained glass, and of course, clothing for women and children, as well as my eclectic mix of refashioned sweaters, embellished shoes and handbags, home decor items, and baby goods.

The name of Amanda’s little neighborhood shop is “Apple Pie Boutique” and we are currently in the process of painting and organizing the storefront, as well as setting up design studios and work spaces for some of the team.

This is going to be a very busy autumn, but if we work hard at designing, creating, and stocking our shelves, this should be a great opportunity to build Vintage Mama’s Cottage and mamas*little*treasures!
