My journey this spring and summer has been interesting. Sometimes God has a way of gently redirecting us from one pathway to a different one, but I’m the kind of person who always wants to know where I’m going ahead of time. As it turns out, God doesn’t usually give us a “heads up” about life’s next adventure.
Since I’ve been designing and creating clothing for women and children for quite some time, and my little Etsy shops have done fairly well when I’ve devoted my time and attention to them, it just seemed like a good idea to pick up that project after my position at the university was eliminated a year ago.
So, that’s what I’ve been doing . . . . . but as I’ve attempted to refocus on building my online businesses, learning new marketing skills, and discovering new avenues for using social media for business, there were always (really, ALWAYS!) more ideas that would pop into my mind.
If you’ve never experienced “brain overload” then you might not understand, but having too many creative ideas can become rather overwhelming and even lead to “creative paralysis.” Which is really annoying, especially when what one really wants to do is get busy and “create” something.
The other day I came across a video about the life of a beautiful young woman named Zina (hmmmmm . . . . kind of close to Nina) who described herself as having “Creative Compulsive Disorder.” Not sure that is an official diagnosis, but it seems appropriate for people who are perpetually in a state of either actively creating something or thinking about creating something.
The real gift that I discovered in watching this video was that it helped me realize that the world is full of people who might seem “strange” or “unusual” to others, but it is actually true that God makes people in all different varieties. I feel much better now! See how much we can learn from someone so young!
Unfortunately, this incredibly creative soul lost her physical life in a hiking accident, but through this video her spirit continues to inspire others. If you take a minute to meet Zina through this video, you will love her sweet and whimsical personality and perhaps you will be encouraged to pursue your own brand of creativity.
How fun it has been to realize that I’m not alone in “Creative Compulsive Disorder.” How about you? Does this describe you, too?
