So I’m a week behind, but with all this snow, I’m having some time to play in my Documented Life Journal. For week 4 the prompt was to create a page with a “hidden” saying, covered up so that only one inspirational word shows. Since I’ve been having a bit of trouble getting the hang of the painting part of this project, I decided to go back to my tried-and-true technique of paper collage.
Eventually I will figure out which paints to use and how to make them do what I want them to do, and create what I envision in my brain . . . . . but for now, this was a fun project, even though I didn’t use any paint. Instead, these pages were created on plain ol’ card stock with layers of various prints, textures, and colors.
Some vintage sheet music got the ball rolling (so to speak), and then I found a few strips of vellum paper, scrap book paper with roses, paisleys, a damask print, and a vintage dictionary page. Some pale pink tissue paper was crinkled up and glued down; sparkly pink Washi tape was applied, and the final touch was a few black paisleys stamped over the top.
Then I wrote my “hidden” message on a scrap of old fashioned lined paper (the kind we used to write on in elementary school), and covered it up with another scrap of pink gingham vellum paper. If you try, you can still read the entire “hidden” message, but the one word that is visible is “Perseverance.” That is my word for this week, to keep me moving forward even though being snowed in has made it very difficult to keep up with the things that I have set down as my goals for the month.
Not quite as daring and bold as others I’ve seen – but I’m gathering courage every week! I want to try to work with paints, but so far, I don’t like the way it makes the paper all wavy, so I think I need to find a set of paint pens or some kind of paint that will produce the bright, sharp colors and lines that I want without ruining my paper. I’ll do some research and see if I can find just the right stuff!
