Last week the creative prompt for The Documented Life Project was to use “doodles” in a border . . . .but after doing my planner pages where I doodled just around the edges of my daily schedule boxes, I got started on a page that was just for fun. I started doodling and apparently had a hard time stopping!
Once I found these golden butterflies, there was just no end to all of the little swirls, dots, stripes and “tangles” that I found room for. Besides the scrap book paper that had the beautiful butterflies, I ripped some scraps of gingham vellum paper, and even used my watercolor paints on a scrap of paper towel. I kind of like the texture of that corner of the design . . . . but then there was the bird that I’ve had in my paper ephemera collection for a while and I wanted to add that to the mix, so the word “SOAR” seemed appropriate. Then, with a few scraps of fibers reflecting the “tangle” theme, my “doodled” pages were complete!
Then it just seemed like it needed something else, so I added a couple of diagonal ribbons for embellishment, doodled on them too, and just generally had great fun with all of this doodling! If you have never tried your hand at art journaling, I can assure you that it is a wonderful way to express some of your ideas and thoughts that might just tend to swirl around in your head. I know that for me it has been really therapeutic during times of stress or anxiety, and I take the time to remind myself who I am.
This week I am working on the pages for February, with calendar pages, and then some planner pages as well as a few more “just for fun” pages – and my word(s) for this month: “Strong Enough.” As I’ve been journaling through The Documented Life Project, I have been reflecting on all of the years of feeling that, no matter what the area of life I was facing, I just couldn’t get past the feeling that I would never be “enough.” So, this month I have decided to remember that I am, in fact, “enough.” And I will start with “strong enough.”
I hope you will consider joining The Documented Life Project – even if you don’t consider yourself to be particular creative or artistic, this is an opportunity to discover the creativity that God has put into your heart – you just need to let it escape! Hope to see you there!
Also, every Monday your can join the “Inspire Me Monday” blog hop at Create with Joy. Another great place to connect with creative bloggers, who are also friendly and encouraging, and would LOVE to see what you are working on in your creative space this week.
