I’m back to work in my design studio! That has got to be one of my most favorite things of all. We have a lovely little building on the other side of our garage that is perfect for Vintage Mama’s Cottage. All of my designing and sewing supplies are in that little studio, along with several tables for cutting and creating. There are shelves for all of my Works in Progress, my ironing board, a cutting table, and a table for laying out all the pieces of the next project . . . . and I don’t have to stack everything up and put it away in a drawer or closet at suppertime!
All winter, whenever I needed to work on a design project, I would have the dining room table and all of the counter tops covered with ribbons, paper, buttons, glitter, glue, scissors, and various other paraphernalia that I was using at any given moment. Then, when supper time came around – I either had to put everything away or my little family would just have to find someplace else to eat for the minute. Or two.
Now, outside Vintage Mama’s Cottage I have flower boxes at two of the windows filled with bright red impatiens (there is a charming little woods behind us so we get a lot of shade on that side of the house), a barrel with more bright red impatiens by the corner of the studio, and a little flower garden in front with a WELCOME sign above it. Crisp white curtains with embroidered strawberries on them, and a few ruffles, of course, and Vintage Mama’s Cottage is the perfect place for this Vintage Mama to work.
The first project that I’m getting rolling again is my line of children’s clothing which will be designed and written into eBook patterns to encourage moms and grandmas to sew for their children. Even if you haven’t had the opportunity to learn to sew for your family, my new eBook patterns will take you step-by-step through some of the basic techniques so that you can begin to create your own fun outfits.
Here is the first set in the Popsicle Patch collection of simple summer designs. This collection includes a sleeveless, ruffled top with a patch pocket on the front; ruffled capris with an elastic waist; and a double-ruffled skirt with an elasticized waist.
This collection also includes a double-ruffle sleeveless dress that is a bit longer than most summer dresses, but is designed to be made for any or all seasons, and can be sewn up in a heavier fabric for the colder months, and worn as a jumper with a long sleeve top or sweater underneath. More pictures coming next week!
After a collection is designed, created, and photographed, I will be writing the eBook pattern and it will be available from my Etsy shop, mamas*little*treasures. We’re also in the process of designing a line of fashionable and fun garments for young teens that will be feminine and modest. Keep watching for updates from Vintage Mama’s Cottage!
