In the midst of all the summer activity around here, we’ve also been working on sorting through the storage totes that I have out in the studio. They are filled with inventory, fabric, sweaters, trims, fabric scraps, and various other “stuff” that I use when I am designing and creating my “wearable art” collection.
Which is something I need to focus on for the next couple of months as we will be traveling to the Cleveland Museum of Art textile exhibition in October. This will be fun! Making all kinds of interesting, unique, and creative garments and accessories is one of my favorite things to do. But before I can cut loose (pun intended) and start rearranging and refashioning new garments out of old, I really need to finish the organizing project. That is not my favorite part of this job!
In the meantime, I’m having the honor of editing a few books for a couple of my writer friends . . . . along with keeping the Ruby magazine rolling off the digital and print presses each month. Tonight I am revising a few chapters of the third book in the Magnolia Series by my sweet friend Gloria Doty.
The first book in the series, Bring a Cowboy Home, was finished up in the spring, and then we wrapped up the second book, Loving a Cowboy in early summer. We are currently working on getting the third book ready to be published by early September. Gloria is working on writing the fourth and fifth books in the series. Whew! She keeps me busy! But I love working with her and I am so excited to be part of her “team.”
Recently I have decided that I need to focus on only a couple (or three . . . . ) projects instead of trying to tackle every new idea that comes my way. So here’s the simplified work load here at Vintage Mama’s Cottage:
- Ruby magazine and blog
- Vintage Mama’s Cottage blog
- Editing for other writers through CreativeLife Editing, Inc.
- Refashion garments / wearable art for my Etsy shops
- Children’s clothing / pattern books (which kind of combines both of my focus areas)
Tomorrow we will be back in the studio to finish up all of the sorting and organizing, and then on Friday the plan is to have time for taking photos of some of my current inventory so I can update the Etsy shops. But tonight, I have to finish up these four chapters for Gloria because we have to get this one wrapped up by the middle of August. Guess I better get to work . . . . because then I have some editing to do and ad copy creation for my other writer, Jean Ann. More about that later.
For now, you will definitely enjoy reading Gloria’s first two books in the Magnolia Series, Bring a Cowboy Home and Loving a Cowboy. And if you purchase your copy of Gloria’s books from Ruby’s Reading Corner, they will be delivered directly to your door from Amazon, just as if you purchased them from the Amazon website. But you will be helping support the ministry of Ruby AND it doesn’t cost you any more by shopping from Ruby’s Reading Corner!
