I remember the first time I heard someone talk about a “blog.” “What in the world is that?” I thought. So it was patiently explained to me that a “blog” is actually a “web log” of ideas; kind of like an online journal, where you can post whatever you want! Well, that sounded like great fun to me, so I started my own “blog.” As with most bloggers, it has evolved over the past three or four years, but all along it has been great fun to share ideas and projects with anyone who might pass by and be interested in what I had to say on any given day.
So the other day as I was working on a post for my blog, I got to thinking, “I wonder WHY people blog? What is the motivation to put your thoughts and ideas out there in the blogosphere for the entire world to read?” After visiting lots and lots of other blogs, and discovering that not only is it fun to have a place to express our ideas, thoughts, projects, and daily activities with other people, it is an amazing way to make new friends!
Blogging has redefined “friendship” in many ways, it seems, and we now have a brand-new category of “relationships” in our lives. It used to be that we typically only established friendships with people who were geographically close to us, because there was only one way to get to know another person – in person, through conversation, on the phone, and seeing each other on a regular basis in our church, community, neighborhood, or school. Now, a whole new world of friends has opened up to all of us, and it is truly a gift!
Some bloggers focus on family topics, or children and babies; some bloggers feature business advice and Work-from-Home opportunities. Other bloggers feature book or product reviews; and some focus primarily on cooking and recipes. There are crafty bloggers, and advice bloggers, and home school bloggers. There are bloggers who post articles on parenting or education or daily life in the city, on the farm, in the mountains or by a lake. There are bloggers who write about their religious devotion, their contemplative life, or their experiences as a missionary.
I would love to hear your thoughts on my YOU blog! You can leave your link here and I will stop by and visit you as soon as possible . . . . and follow you, too ;o) You are also invited to join us at “Girls Who Blog” in the Ruby for Women community where you can share links to your blog posts everyday, and we will feature some of your posts throughout the week. Hope to see you there!
Have a great weekend, and I’ll see you all next week at the usual places as we all “hop” around to visit one another! Nina
